Earnings

What you can earn driving in the US

What you earn depends on the track and the city. Hourly shifts pay a fixed rate for every hour worked. Contractor work pays per job at the rates the companies publish, plus whatever applies locally.

Hourly rates are the current published rate for the employed driving shifts in this market, plus tips. Contractor figures are revenue before gas, vehicle costs, insurance and self-employment tax, not wages, and no minimum wage covers the waiting time between contractor jobs here. Actual earnings depend on hours worked, area covered and how many companies you sign up with through Service Club.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about driving in the US

Where are the hourly passenger shifts?

In the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Newark. They pay for every hour on shift rather than per trip, around $14 to $20 an hour plus tips depending on the city. Everywhere else, the work we match you to is rideshare and delivery as an independent contractor.

What do I need for an hourly passenger shift?

You must be 23 or older, hold a valid driver's license for that state, and have at least one year of licensed driving experience. You also need a personal smartphone and to be fluent in English.

Do I need my own car?

For contractor rideshare, grocery and most parcel work, yes. Food delivery also runs on a bike or scooter in the denser neighborhoods. The hourly passenger roles pay for the hour rather than the trip; ask the employer what the shift involves when you apply.

Is there a minimum I am guaranteed to earn?

On an hourly shift, yes: the rate is paid for every hour you work. On contractor work it depends on where you drive. California's Prop 22 and local rules in New York City and Seattle set pay floors, while many states, Georgia and New Jersey among them, set none at all.

Can I work for more than one company?

On contractor work, yes, and most experienced drivers do: rideshare and delivery in parallel, or scheduled parcel blocks on quiet days. One Service Club signup covers all of them.

Does Service Club cost me anything?

No. Service Club is free for drivers. We earn from the companies we connect you to, never from your earnings.
