Let’s start with the essential question:

With the average rates in mind, a seven-hour working day could amount to £13,000 to £24,000 per year.

The reason why Uber Eats driver pay rates vary so significantly is that there’s a range of factors that impact how much you’d earn – such as time of day, location, high-demand areas, and the like.

We based our guide on the Uber company’s data, and reviews from real Uber Eats drivers. Uber Eats payment method proved to be a bit complicated, and we gave our best to break everything down for you.

So, let’s begin.

How Does Uber Eats Pay Its Bicycle Delivery Drivers?

Uber Eats delivery teams operate worldwide – in London, Milan, Paris, New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Sydney, to name a few cities. So, if you don’t have a valid driver’s license or car insurance, there’s still a way for you to earn money doing bike deliveries.

However, know that bike delivery isn’t available in all cities where Uber Eats operates.

In terms of food delivery services, there are four standard modes of payment:

  • Per delivery
  • Per mile
  • Per hour
  • Fixed salary

So, which of these methods has Uber Eats chosen for its delivery drivers?

Uber Eats pays its delivery staff per delivery – and thanks to Instant Pay, they can cash out whenever they want. That said, the number of delivery requests they accept, the time spent delivering food, and the mileage the driver travels both affect the final earnings.

So the base fare of payment includes:

Pick-Up Fee

This fee is essentially the cost of picking up an order. It’s a flat rate that UberEats drivers get whenever they pick up an order at the restaurant.

Sometimes a driver accepts several delivery requests from the same location and at the same time. These are so-called batched orders. In such cases, the payments are somewhat different.

Namely, the driver with only one pick-up for two deliveries will see a batch discount equal to one pick-up fee on the payment statement. The driver’s mileage fee for their second delivery covers the trip between the first and second drop-off locations, though.

Drop-Off Fee

A drop-off fee is a cost of dropping off the order at the customer’s residence. It’s also referred to as a delivery fee.

Every time an Uber Eats driver completes a food delivery, they’re paid a flat rate. As we’ve already mentioned, the payments are issued when a driver drops off food at a particular location – even if they’re picked up at the same restaurant.

Minute Rate

This fee covers the time the driver has spent delivering the food. Namely, the Uber food delivery app tracks how long it takes the driver to complete orders – from the moment the food’s picked up at the restaurant to the moment they deliver food.

The minute rate is not available in all cities, and when it is, it’s based on the estimated time – not the actual time the driver spent. If a driver waits for the food at the restaurant or gets stuck in the traffic, they probably won’t get compensated for that.

Mileage Rate

This fee covers the distance the food delivery driver has traveled. The Uber app calculates the most efficient route; it doesn’t track the actual distance the driver travels.

Unfortunately, the mileage that Uber Eats drivers cover while getting to their next pick-up point isn’t considered here. It’s worth noting that the mileage rate isn’t applicable in every city, so it’s something you should look into before starting work as an Uber Eats driver.

Generally speaking, though, in cities like London, Manchester, and Birmingham, the per-mile rate is £1.50.

NOTE: Occasionally, Uber Eats offers promotions that increase the driver’s overall earnings.

Are There Any Additional Fees For Uber Eats Delivery Drivers?

couriers-deliver-ordersUber has made some changes to its earning structure. On the upside, you can still count on their global safety team dedicated to ensuring the safety of all app users – drivers and customers alike.

Even though Uber Eats employees get paid by the company for each successful pick-up and delivery, they can count on tips from satisfied customers, too. Uber Eats customers can add tips up to a week after the finalized delivery, and the entire amount belongs to the driver.

Tips are not subject to Uber’s service fee.

Uber Eats informs every customer that tips are not obligatory – but gratuities are accepted if the Uber Eats customer still wishes to pay them. Unfortunately, due to this policy, some feel discouraged and don’t offer tips for the driver, meaning you might not earn as much in tips as in some other companies where tipping is mandatory.

The Uber Eats drivers can track their tips in the “Earnings” tab of the Uber Driver app, as well as on All cash and non-cash tips the employee receives are considered income – and are, thus, subject to income taxes.

Boost promotions are an UberEats incentive that drivers can use to plan their working hours – and maximize their earnings. In essence, it acts as a multiplier for your earnings if you choose to work during peak times or in specific areas known as “Boost Zones.”

It can increase the fee and boost the driver’s bank account.

If a person chooses to work when drivers aren’t in high supply, they might receive more money. That way, Uber Eats encourages its employees to work where they are most needed.

The delivery driver will be notified of the multiplier and can then choose to accept or refuse the delivery. If they accept and deliver food successfully, the net fare will be multiplied according to the delivery terms and automatically transferred to their account.

Uber Eats drivers aren’t left empty-handed even when their order is canceled. A delivery person might not be eligible for the full delivery cost but will get paid a certain amount.

And if a driver can’t locate the customer despite the best efforts, they’ll get paid the full fee.

What Is The Uber Eats Fare Reduction & How Will It Influence Your Paycheck?

Uber will pay an employee differently based on the city they work in as an Uber Eats driver and the vehicle they use.

In general, an Uber Eats bicycle driver shouldn’t worry about fare reductions; delivering food on a bike is paid the highest average hourly rate. The Uber Eats rate for their bike delivery staff can go up to £14 during busy hours.

How Much Money Will An Uber Eats Bicycle Driver Get?

As we mentioned a bit earlier, the amount of money Uber Eats pays their food delivery drivers varies significantly between cities. It also depends on the employee’s working hours – since peak hours are always paid better.

The Uber Eats bicycle drivers agreed that you could easily make minimum wage. Furthermore, a driver could make up to £14 per hour on a good night. Of course, it also depends on the driver – some earn far less than this, and others make even more money.
